You Are Not a Gadget: A Manifesto

Jaron Lanier, You Are Not a Gadget: A Manifesto, 2010

I have listened to a nice paper in Die Zeit about this book: “Masse und Netz” by Heinrich Wefing, 2010, N 42. Well, the paper was more about the author, the book was presented rather shortly. Yet it was enough to get me interested and I have bought a book (the edition in German to improve my German).

The book is very good, it brings forward many new ideas about open culture, swarm intelligence and singularity. It shows that it makes sense to follow carefully the philosophy that is popular in Silicon Valley, as nowadays the modern technology could dictate the way a person should live. The book is provocative but fun to read. It has influenced a lot my thoughts and I guess that now I have started thinking differently.
