Does biology need a new theory of explanation?

Does biology need a new theory of explanation? An investigation into the possibility of moving past the limits of mechanistic and teleological descriptions of organisms: a thesis presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Ecology at Massey University, Auckland, New Zealand

Chris has made some time ago a talk at the International Embryo Physics Course but only now I have browsed his thesis. I like it, it is a good introduction into Kant’s Critique of Judgment and helps to understand the logic behind it. The thesis is nicely done, there are many well done diagrams that lovely summarize the content.

He states that solitons are of acausual nature and one can use a system of extremal principles in biology and evolution.
